What’s the Best Temperature for Serving Wine?

Let’s start with the basics. Not all wines are the same, and each category is best enjoyed at a different temperature., this is good to know.

For white, rosé and fruity sparkling wine, the perfect temperature is 4°C, in other words, fridge temperature. That’s convenient, right? For bolder white wines and sparkling wines like Champagne, you can go up to 10°C.

For red wines, the lightest examples, like a silky Pinot, are best enjoyed at 10°C, and the more robust red wines can handle temperatures up to 16°C. Now, how to chill wine fast?

1. Ice and Water

If you don’t have a wine fridge or forgot to store your bottles of white in the fridge, you can always chill the wine fast with a combination of ice and water. When using an ice bucket, wine should be ready in minutes once chilled, around 10 minutes for red wine and 20 minutes for white, sparkling and rosé, to be precise.    Remember to fill the ice bucket with even amounts of ice and water, to completely immerse the wine while waiting, believe us its worth waiting for and we can all wait 10 to 20 minutes.

2. The Freezer

If you want to lower your wine’s temperature fast, you can store it in the freezer, but there’s a catch. Unlike spirits like vodka, the wine will actually freeze and will get ruined. Still, as long as you don’t forget about it, you can lower red wine’s temperature in the freezer in 40 minutes and white wine in an hour.

Damping paper towels with water and covering the bottles can speed up the process a lot! Of course, you should never rush these things; it’s best to be prepared before your guests arrive to enjoy some wine.
